Caring for Your Flooring

Lions Floor SPC, WPC, laminate, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), and Loose Lay floors are designed for long-lasting beauty and easy maintenance. With modern waterproof flooring technology and durable wear layers, routine care requires only simple cleaning practices to keep your floors looking their best. Proper vinyl plank flooring cleaning and SPC flooring maintenance help preserve the floor’s finish and maintain the natural appearance of your waterproof flooring.

Recommended Cleaning Routine

Maintaining your waterproof flooring is simple with a consistent cleaning routine.

Daily / As Needed

  • Sweep or dry mop to remove dust, sand, and debris
  • Wipe up spills immediately

Weekly

  • Vacuum using a hard-surface setting (no beater bar)
  • Damp mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner

Monthly

  • Inspect furniture protectors and replace if worn
  • Check entry mats and rugs for trapped dirt

Prevent Dirt and Grit Buildup

Dirt, sand, and grit can act like sandpaper on flooring surfaces and may cause premature wear.

Regular sweeping or vacuuming helps remove abrasive particles and maintain the original finish of your floor.

Vacuum and Robot Vacuum Use

Vacuuming is an effective way to remove dust and debris from SPC, WPC, laminate, LVP flooring, and Loose Lay floors.

For best results:

  • Use a vacuum designed for hard surface floors
  • Avoid vacuums with rotating beater bars or stiff brush rollers
  • Robot vacuums are acceptable for routine cleaning when used in dry mode or light damp mode only
  • Robot vacuums that use water should never leave standing moisture on the floor surface

Cleaning Floors in Homes with Pets

Lions Floor products are pet-friendly flooring solutions, but proper maintenance will help keep floors looking new.

  • Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove pet hair and dander
  • Keep pet nails trimmed to reduce surface scratching
  • Clean accidents promptly using a pH-neutral floor cleaner
  • Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that may damage the protective wear layer

Removing Common Stains

Most household stains can be removed using simple cleaning methods.

Stain Type
Food & beverage Warm water and pH-neutral vinyl cleaner
Adhesive residue Denatured alcohol
Grease or oil Isopropyl alcohol diluted with distilled water
Marker or ink Alcohol-based cleaner
Scuffs Non-abrasive cloth with vinyl cleaner

Protecting Your Floor from Furniture Damage

Heavy furniture and appliances can damage any flooring surface if not properly protected.

To prevent dents and scratches:

  • Use non-staining felt pads under all furniture legs
  • Furniture protectors should be at least 1 inch in diameter
  • Lift furniture when moving items instead of sliding
  • Use hard-surface chair mats under rolling office chairs

Keeping furniture protectors clean helps prevent trapped dirt from scratching the floor surface.

Entryway Dirt Protection — Use Walk-Off Mats

Dirt and sand tracked in from outside can act like sandpaper on flooring surfaces.
Place walk-off mats both outside and inside entryways to reduce debris entering the home.

Choose mats that are:

  • Non-staining
  • Non-rubber backed
  • Breathable with a rug pad underneath

Avoid Excess Moisture

Although Lions Floor waterproof flooring products resist topical water damage, excessive moisture should still be avoided.

  • Do not allow standing water on the floor surface
  • Use a damp mop rather than a wet mop
  • Immediately dry large spills

Excessive moisture over time may affect seams, underlayment, or subfloor conditions.

Can You Use a Steam Mop on Vinyl Plank Flooring?

  • Steam mops should not be used on SPC, WPC, laminate, Loose Lay, or luxury vinyl plank flooring.
  • Damages associated with steam mop use will void warranty coverage.
  • High heat and steam pressure may damage the protective wear layer and compromise plank joints.
  • Use a damp microfiber mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner instead.

Laminate Flooring Care

Laminate flooring requires similar routine care as other hard surface floors; however, because laminate contains a wood-based core, special attention should be given to limiting moisture exposure.

Cleaning Guidelines

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove debris
  • Use a lightly damp mop only when necessary
  • Do not wet mop laminate flooring or allow standing water on the surface
  • Do not use steam mops
